WHERE I SELL: WERTZ BROTHERS ANTIQUE MARKET

I have had some requests to see Wertz Brothers
the wonderful antique market in Santa Monica, California
where I have had the pleasure of being a part of for 12 years.

You can find all manner of wonderful merchandise here.

excuse me!

A COUPLE OF REAL BAD BOYS!

and here is....

a view of my space
# 212

these are the great concrete and plaster dogs that I found last week.

another dealers beautiful space...
chippy, sparkling, gorgeousness..

This is one of the prettiest spaces in the mall

This dealer told me that she goes to Roundtop, Texas
every year to bring back some of this quality merchandise...

dreamy whites

curious oddities....

Another fine looking space.

Another dealers great space.

A great eye for finding just the right
merchandise is the hallmark of the dealers in this mall and it is what makes
being in here extra special...
The waiting list to sell here is long...You have to sell the
right quality and keep the tone of the place to a certain standard...

not only do they buy right, they know how important
a beautiful display is...

I started selling antiques in 1989...It all began when I realized that I had
too much stuff and  I needed to get rid of some things , so I thought I would get a space
at a little local elementary school flea market.  I did so well that first day that I formulated a plan in which
I would shop and buy stuff that I didn't plan on keeping for myself.   I booked a space for the following
month and the same thing happened.  People were gathered around  me as I
pulled stuff out of my station wagon.   I thought, hmmm... maybe I could  make a
living doing this.   So I sold at Flea Markets in the LA area for awhile until a friend of
mine asked  me to share a space at this very mall...We are still partners here.
It sure beats hauling stuff to a flea market every month.

Selling here is a pleasure.  We get a lot of celebrities
and star decorators coming in.  They know that the
place will deliver the goods.  We also get a lot
of movie people looking for props.  I have seen some
of my things in movies and magazine layouts.
That is just one of the percs of doing business in Los Angeles.

Those mannequins! -- er, MANnequins! ;-)

Those spines!!

I'm going to ramble around your photos for a sweet long while ... there's so much food for inspiration here ... Thanks :-)

As I type, it's about 4 p.m. EST ... My two kittones are lurking like the gorgeous prowlers they are ... They close in on me at around this time of day as reminders that soon they will start to mewl pathetically, leap onto the keyboard, trash the litter box, oh and etc.! etc.! It's always dinnertime for them ... ;-D

Thanks for visiting my blog.
I get to CA about once a year,
generally the week before Christmas.
My husband is from CA(Orange CO.) and
we go visit his kin who mostly live
in Paso Robles and Oceanside.
Just might make a stop into your shop
next year when we are there.
If you get to Roundtop then you have to
come by my store which is only about 45 minutes away. Would love to meet you.

Hi Cynthia, thanks so much for your wonderful message. Chester boy was a lucky doggie, and so were we! Love at first sight.

Love the pics you posted. I really love going to this store, been there a few times over the years, when I get to stop in SM for awhile on our way from SLO to Or Co. Not often, but well worth the stop. I'll be sure and look for your space if I ever go through again! Bug hug, Riki

Wow! What a great job! I'd love to do that too you - much more than lugging it backwards and forwards to flea markets and private sales..
Your stand is gorgeous.

There's so much to ponder on and play with in this post that I have to muse on one image at a time! Today it's the two "bad boys." YUM.

... Oops! I just read my other comment and, funny that -- I was focusing on the bad boys there too. Naughty me. But they really are beautiful. Aesthetically pleasing in many respects ;-)

All of it is beautiful ... and refreshing to see amidst all the stuff and crap of big-box ugliness ...

The objects here look noticed, cherished, meaningful and useful ... treated with respect as they are passed on ...

Cynthia,
Great store pics.
Sorry no time to read about it right now, but will answer your questions on the scripture bottles.

I do print out the words myself.

I type them up in Microsoft word, adjust size, and print.
Then I tear them, and age the edges.

Let me know if you have any more questions, and be sure to tell me if you make one. I would love to brag on you. =)
Blessings

oops.

I gave you inst. for Ps 139 bottles.

Here is what I do for the scripture jars.

I type out the scriptures in Word, a whole sheet at a time, and save them.
Then when i want to do some, I just print out the sheet and cut them into strips. Then roll up with a tooth pick and unroll again. (then, not to big too fit in jar.)

I can do a tutorial on them if inst. are not on post.

Again, ask if more ?'s, and let me know if you do some. =)

blessings
