A LITTLE BIT OF SHADE....

This is the silk floss tree that grows in our front garden..

We said that we

 needed some shade...

It started its life in a wee plastic pot....
and now we've created a monster!!

  .

 what were we thinking?
you might be saying...

I thought that this looked like a little bird...

emerging from its glossy green bark...

But in spite of its gargantuan proportions,

and those ginormous thorns....

it has a poetic beauty...

a seasonal splendor that contiually changes.
and does indeed provide us with shade...

And also a heck of alot of comments..

I have seen those trees and always wondered about them. How bizarre they are. That DOES look like a little bird - so cute. When did you plant it? Seems to have really thrived there.

What a weird tree.
I have a small bush I planted in my garden a red leafed elderflower... it's now a 13 foot tree five years later too!I planted it so I could use the flowers and leaves in flower arrangements and now it won't stop growing and is beautiful

How bizarre... looks like an entire eco system by itself.. haha... glad you get the shade though.. we have a huge jacaranda and it seems to lose all it's leaves at the most inappropriate time ... have a great weekend and thanks for you lovely comment.. xx Julie

Wow! That tree looks huge! I love the shot looking upwards at it. And that one shot does look like a little bird.

You have no email account associated with your blog, so when you leave comments, I can't respond to them. If you set up a google mail account just for blogland (gmail) and put the address in your blog profile or at the top of your sidebar, I'd be emailing you a response to every single comment you leave me. ;)

Flickr Friday is just my personal thing for Friday posts. Flickr.com is a huge world-wide photography website. I discover artists whose work I like and ask them if they'd like to be featured. So that's what Flickr Friday is.

Good Evening Cynthia Sweetie...
While blog hopping tonight, I found your beautiful blog home. This tree is the most maginificent thing I have ever seen. My gosh those thorns talk to you don't they? I bet my grandsons couldn't climb this tree? I wonder if one would grow in Phoenix, as I have never seen one before. The one photo looks like an eye looking at me. I am just totally amazed.

I have browsed through your jewelry, oh my gosh is it every beautiful. I love that you use old rosary pieces also. So beautiful. You have some real treasures here sweetie. You are so gifted.

I can only imagine what your ukelele music sounds like. God sure did bless you sweetie with many talents.

I have signed up to follow your blog. I can't wait to see what you share next. Please stop by and say hi. I would be so honored if you signed up to follow my blog as well. Country hugs...Sherry

Woo that is one scary-looking mean tree! I bet no squirrels mess with it!

Yep...I can understand how that tree would draw attention to itself...that is ONE "MEAN" looking tree.
But I have found that my favorite ROSES have the sharpest thorns.
