Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Art Museum, designed by Santiago Calatrava in l994.....Beyond wonderful.

Fantastic....A big white sailing bird on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The roof has flaps that open and close at noon.

crossing over the bridge to the museum..Lake Michigan is in the back.

The “Seventh Ward”...upscale, trendy, fun..A former factory area on the Milwaukee River
turned into Lofts, shopping and great restaurants.

The old and the new emerge into one.

A glorious turn of the century (20th that is) building....
Spectacular...

Wonderful old buildings....

column detail...

Fabulous Food Hall and restaurants housed in
an old building.

The Electric Company door detail.

River front walkway... Factory turned into Lofts...
Location, location, location....

Glorious old churches....

Light fixture detail...

Bronze doorway detail...a mini tile mosaic

..thankfully many old buildings were not torn down.

I took loads of pictures that day.  Milwaukee is a beautiful, fun city with lots to do
and full of old world beauty, charm and grace.   This, mixed in with a lively, modern, urban
side,  makes it a fun place to visit .

An enclosed walkway for those blustery winter days.
Fortunately for me, I didn’t have to use that...

What would Milwaukee be without the beer that made it famous...

A funky entrance....

Beautiful old buildings at every corner....

Love the bronze doorway! Very beautiful. Say, was in LA, got to swing by Wertz Bros and see your booth! Great job, what a fun store. Loved it. Hugs, Riki

I keep expecting to see Laverne and Shirley strolling down the street arm in arm! : ) Milwakee looks like fun. Would love to see that museum someday! And I love the contrast between the old and new... like Chicago. Thank goodness they aren't tearing down the old historic buildings anymore!

Hi Cynthia! Glad to see you out here again. I missed this post - must have been after I "clocked out" on Friday. I was in Milwaukee once when I was little so obviously I don't remember any of this, much cooler than I imagined it to be. Thanks for the tour!

I lived in Green Bay many years ago and loved going to Milwaukee, although I imagine some places are very different now. That Farm Aid concert looked awesome. Also reading the post before, my Mom passed away 2 years ago and her birthday is Sunday, so I can empathize with you.
I see you have me on your sidebar - tahnks, I shall do the same with your blog.
Oh and enjoy Thanksgiving!!

I loved Milwaukee when I was there, such a long time ago. Went to visit with my American hosts, their Milwaukee friend named Robyn. To my Australian ear it sounded like Rarbn. Enjoyed travelling your wonderful country immensely. Thanks for sharing these wonderful pics Cynthia.
