I am not a natural...
I have a lot of fear and self-doubt.
I censor myself and think too much.
i hold back.
thinking too much |
I have to practice and repeat things over and over.
And my memory isn’t too hot.
But the enjoyment I get from it and the
feeling that I get from playing music, writing songs
and performing them...
makes it all worthwhile.
The Ukettes |
Sometimes you just have to conquer the fear and
dive in head first. You get people who are telling
you that your crap...but you just have to carry on
anyhow.
Playing with good friends, the ones that support you
and believe in you and help you on your path makes
things less painful.
and when the party is over and
another year is upon is...
it’s back to the practice room with
new ideas, bigger plans and setting my mind
to be more focused, more accommodating and
forgiving of myself for not being perfect..I’ll
never be that. I’ll never be famous or fabulous.
I’m
never be that. I’ll never be famous or fabulous.
I’m
just trying to be authentic to who I am and
finding my own voice.
NO ONE IS GOOD BY IMITATION...
finding my own voice.
NO ONE IS GOOD BY IMITATION...
I don’t have the voice of an angel.
I sure wish I did but it’s very ordinary...
but I do love to sing and I love to play,
and I know that by doing it I can overcome alot of
other stuff that is standing in my way.
So in this New Year...
I want to conquer all that stuff and I want
to do it just for me...and not to please others.
and stop worrying about what they think about me.
Because the only thing worse than failing
is never trying at all...

How lovely, I did enjoy the photos, they just oozed fun and laughter, music and freindship.
You go girl, make this YOUR year!
HI Cynthia
You are so right!!,... so many things I never attempted due to self censure and thinking I wasn't good enough.. and well too old to be doing that now!!
I'd avoided photography and art most of my life as my brother is so darn good at it!! silly really was missing out on the fun!
Hope this year is a fabulous one for you and yours.. lots love xxx Julie
Uke on, Cynthia, uke on! Authenticity is its own reward. Keep singing and playing -- you and your music make the world a better place!
Oh you funny girl, you already ARE fabulous! I think so anyway. Shine Cynthia, shine in your own light.
I forgot to tell you I found a Martin ukelele at a yard sale for my son who plays guitar and banjo - $5 - he traded it toward the purchase of his banjo - $350.00! I've sold antiques and vintage to shops for 14 years, mostly smalls - anything from furniture, linens, ephemera, transferware, jewelry, Majolica - fun, fun! Jennifer
What a great post...
love the pics too!

It's easy to tell by the look on your faces that this is something you love to do-- So ENJOY it as often as you can.
Happy New Year! jj
Martin Uke for $5...I’m reeling!!!!
I LOVE this post! Yes! Words for us all~~~we aren't perfect, but we can follow our passion. And enjoy~~
2011!! Looking forward to blessings.
Being authentic is what it's about, in my opinion.
its going to be a great year!!
i have had to "practice" at a good year for the past 2 hehe
so now i really am authentically ready.
the question is .. is 2011 ready for you ?

You got it, the last paragraph says it all.
It's like the boook says.... feel the fear and do it anyway!
xx
You go girl!! I love the way you guys sound, fabulous! I'm so glad you're having fun, don't listen to the naysayers! Thanks for swinging by and entering the contest Cynthia. Happy New Year my friend. Hugs, Riki
Looks like a fabulous time! Happy New Year~Cheers Kim
You are too hard on yourself, but in spite of what you think your short comings are, you go forward and I admire you, for that simple fact. Have fun and enjoy what you do... try not to over think it. Many blessings to you in this new year
Rebecca
You go girl....looks like you had a great time. If you're having fun, that energy is going to come across and be great even if you aren't Barbara Streisand .....but maybe you are and are too afraid to imagine it! Yes, I can relate to the fear of what others think... especially when it comes to putting myself before a crowd! My whole family (on my mom's side) sings and performs and it horrifies me! I'm so critical of myself I dont even know if I
CAN sing but do I love singing. Recently, I told my mom I'm thinking of taking voice lessons just for fun.... she couldn't believe it, after more than 40 years of encouraging me to perform. I might just do it, even if it's for singing in the shower : )
and isn't fun the best thing to have? Always admired your bravery CJ.

You asked about where and when I found the martin uke a while ago ... about 8 yrs ago, MD. but I always go to yard sales, Good Will, etc. found a pretty banjo that needed to be restrung on the tail end of a yard sale marked "free" so I picked that up for my son this summer with a tambourine - also free. Stop by and see my latest post, might give you a chuckle, Jennifer jennsthreegraces
