A day at Mauna and Lee’s

I spent the afternoon at my wonderful neighbor’s
house taking pictures of their beautiful garden...

creativity in every corner.

This once barren, weedy landscape took a few years
to pull together but just look at it now.

An eye for beauty and detail.

unusual plants

color and texture created with non-thirsty plants perfect
for Southern California landscapes.

bowling balls and boulders

I covet this old neon Paint sign that they salvaged.

creative use of color and form

Bold and fearless...

Mauna and Lee are not only creative to the core but
are such good people in so many ways.  They are local activists who put countless
hours into helping their Wrigley neighborhood and the city of Long Beach.

They are also loads of fun and have great parties.

The end to a perfect day...

What a gorgeous garden! It must be a pleasure to sit there, reading a book, sipping a cool beverage on a hot, lazy afternoon.

Hi Cynthia!
I LOVE this backyard and you're right..they're fearless. How could you NOT be in a good mood when you step outdoors and see this every day! That fireplace reminds me of my step family...they had one in orange in their living room way back in the 70's. I hope today is another beautiful one for you...it's been cool here and I can't wait till the warm weather returns and I can get into my shorts and tank tops! Have a great day my friend...

WOW! Their yard and your photos could be in a magazine. What fantastic beauty! Like you I'd arm wrestle for that PAINT sign and the bowling ball is a hoot. Now I'll be on the look out for one too.

Hope you're enjoying this nice warm weather! xo jj

What an awesome backyard. I think I would spend hours back there. How lucky to have them as neighbors. They are so cool with throwing a bowling ball around and that PAINT sign is fantastic! My sister lives in CA and I am so jealous ofthe landscapes compared to the ones here in Iowa!

SO happy you shared this, no grab a cup of joe and a book and head on over to your neighbors. They won't mind, lol!
