A little trip to the desert

We went on a day trip to the desert to visit a friend
of Mr. Beatnheart...

The desert at this time of year is just beautiful...
perfect weather , spring wildflowers...

I haven’t been out of the city in many months...
it was wonderful to just hear the wind blow and
hear nothing but the birds.

To some people this looks like a pile of junk...
I was in rusty heaven...I mean look!  old beer cans!
The kind you use to use an opener on...how long
ago was that?  jeez, I can’t even remember.  You
know before pop tops.  Ah some of you youngsters
won’t even remember that... poor things...

I bought quite a few of these home...assemblages,
props....I see all kinds of stuff happening here.

Joshua Trees

an old dump...paradise!
Jeez even in the middle of nowhere I’m “shopping”.
Wish I had me a shovel.

clear blue skies...fabulous rock formations

Linchens?  gorgeous colors what ever they (it) is.

Raven's nest...We watched her as we dined al fresco
on the terrace.

an old ghost town...
once a very prosperous gold mine...we heard
that now that gold is so high they are back in there mining...

We were near Lancaster/ Palmdale area...
some of you may know it from the famous David Hockney painting

oooh girl you are so lucky to go to Joshua Tree! I've never been, but hope to very soon. Lovely pictures, and I can imagine looting those cans too. xoxo Juliette

The desert is so very beautiful and so peaceful...How great that you got out of the city for the day and saw so many beautiful things---including the "junk"...!

Hello Cynthia:
You picture here and write about a landscape which is completely unknown to us in every respect, and for that reason alone we find this post utterly fascinating. Actually to visit an old 'ghost' town is, to us, amazing - the kind of place we have only read about! All so very interesting and evocative of past times.

David Hockney remains one of our favourite British contemporary artists.

Hi Cynthia,
We've been to the desert but the touristy part !!...We went to a mining town called Calico, had a boat on Lake Powell, visited Monument Valley, The Grand Canyon, Bryce Canon and Zion Canyon ....are they all classed as the desert ? Well, they were all visited on the same holiday and were hot !!
You were obviously in heaven, collecting rusty bits and pieces !! I'm sure that I could always find something to take home with me wherever I go too !! XXXX

What a wonderful day you had! I love being out in the desert too...
We've stayed in Twenty Nine Palms & spent time in Joshua Tree - and points nearby. Our son lives in Long Beach so we try to get out there when we visit him.

Rusty Cans! Can't wait to see what you do with them.

Rusty cans, I'll be watching to see what you do with them too.

Oh I miss the desert, I lived in New Mexico for 22 years, not a day goes by that I don't think of the fab times we had there. Thanks for those beautiful photos, glad you got to enjoy your day the sun/desert!

I love your desert pics! One of them looks like this place out by Wickenburg where my hubby and son took me camping one weekend - we call it Dead Cow Camp,...you can probably guess why. Great photos!! There can me so much beauty in the desert.
