This exhibit at The Riverside Museum
showed different ways in which we
decorate ourselves throughout history
and in different cultures.
Tattooing in Polynesia
American Indian tribes used beads to decorate
their shoes, clothing and household goods.
Glorious 1920’s Frocks decorated with
beads, sequins and embroidery
Glamour and elegance is just a frock away.
The early Victorian period used corsets
and elaborate and painful methods including rib removal
to get the hourglass shape. Give me Spanx anyday.
I never tire of looking at clothing from the 1920’s
and if given a chance would time travel back to that
era, but of course, I would want to be rich in order to
wear dresses like this.
Through out history, jewelry was used as a way to
show wealth and status.
1800’s silk dress.
The wonderful Riverside Museum is a
tiny little treasure just across the street from the
fabulous Misson Inn
About an hours drive east from Los Angeles
A pretty little town that provides a full day
of things to see and do and if you are lucky
and have been a very good girl....
you can sit in this courtyard at The Misson Inn and have a lovely lunch,
a nice glass of Champagne....
While gazing upon this fab view.
A rare and wonderful, clear, sunny afternoon
in Southern California.
Take care to enjoy and stay warm and cozy wherever you are in this last week of January...

Sounds like a lovely afternoon! Now, where did I put my diamonds and rubies?
Riverside is a beautiful town! I was born in Redlands which is right by Riverside. Spent a lot of time in Riverside as a kid.
Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
Dear Cynthia,
What a fantastic exhibition.....one that The Victoria and Albert Museum would be proud to put on. Those 1920's dresses are a work of art in themselves. They are just beautiful. I wouldn't mind a bite to eat in that coutyard either. You live in such a beautiful part of the world. We have seen quite a bit of California but, we need to go back to see towns like this.....such a stunning view too.
A beautiful and interesting collection of how we have decorated ourselves down the years. XXXX
I had to look twice to see the tattoos! Yikes.
Thanks for sharing your gorgeous day with us. I love seeing the snow covered mountains and the blue sky-- it's so rare.
Cheers, jj
You can bet your boots, that if I ever get back there I am going to this place. Thank you this was so interesting. yvonne

I particularly liked the tattoo pic. My son has very larg tattoos on his torso, including one of Chinese dragon, simbol of his Martial arts school. The Dad of his last girlfriend, refused to meet him, when she told him Lewis had tattoos!
I could wander round all day ina museum...

I had a boss once (at the bar I used to work in) who used to dress us up in his mother's exquisite 1960s beaded dresses every time we were holding a champagne launch. Sigh - there's nothing like a bit of glam from time to time!!!
What could be better. Fabulous vintage dresses to admire + a champagne lunch eaten outside on a sunny day. The view of the mountains in the California sunshine warmed my heart.
Now that is my kind of day! Thanks for sharing this Cynthia.
